Tales of the Northern March
The eponymous unicorn’s presence is felt throughout this mixed forest and it is a sanctuary for fey creatures of all sorts: sprites, satyrs, dryads, treants, pixies, and blink dogs. The Cairngorm mountains to the south are home to giant eagles and the loch is inhabited by merfolk. Elves of both variety make their home here and it is rumored that a powerful green knight protects the lands. Its value as a safe haven has drawn refugees from more volatile regions, growing its already substantial fey population.
A decade ago, though, the trees in the far eastern extent of the wood started to die. The blight spread as the years passed, stopping at Bear Creek, and this region is now known as Dead Wood. It is rumored to be haunted and a lone tower has been glimpsed through the dead trees atop a hill in the south.
